Olympus Pre & Primary School (OPPS) is an entity of the Olympus Educare Ltd company
located at Misisi in the township of Bunda (4 Kilometers east of Bunda town), in Mara District
of Tanzania. Operated under the ethos and value-system of Seventh day Adventists, OPPS seeks
to nurture its pupil in holistic education, which caters for the mental, social, physical, and
spiritual needs of the student.

provides instruction. OPPS has a mixed boarding system for children aged between 5 and 15
years. The accommodation is dormitory style for both boys and girls.
A. Role:
The school nurse is preferably a registered professional nurse certified with the Tanzania Ministry of
Health working in the school setting. S/he strengthens and facilitates the educational process by
improving and protecting the health status of children. The major focus of school nursing services is
the prevention of illness and disability, and the early detection and correction of health problems. The
school nurse is uniquely qualified in preventive health, health assessment, and referral procedures.
B. Qualifications:
1. Possession of certified academic achievements (certificates and diplomas) in the discipline of
nursing/medical supervision from a recognized medical institution.
2. At least one year's experience as a registered/certified nurse.
3. Certification as required by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.
4. A degree is an added advantage, but may not be required. The degree can be in nursing, public
health, or a related field.
C. Functions:
1. Provide health assessments.
a. Obtains a health and developmental history from parents, guardians, and/or child.
b. Screens and evaluates findings for deficits in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, etc.
c. Observes the child for development and health patterns in making a nursing assessment
and nursing diagnosis.
d. Identifies health findings, which do not fall within the normal range
e. Assists with physical examinations when conducted in the school
2. Develops and implements a health plan.
a. Interprets the health status of pupils to essential school personnel.
