Our client is a highly reputable, well-established and expanding Group having multi-product and multi-service operations across East & Central Africa, and India. Its’ main product lines include Tyres, Engines, Drills, Transmissions, Earthmoving & other equipment, consumables & accessories, including a range of Automobile Vehicles, Commercial Trucks, and
Tippers. In addition, they undertake supplies through international competitive tenders, Finance & Operating Lease, Drill/Meter contracts, MARC contracts, Service Contracts, Contract mining, Supply Chain, HR and other solutions.
The Group provides direct employment to over 300 people across the globe, with almost 200 employees based in the Tanzania operation. The Group is seeking an experienced and directly well-qualified BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (BDM) for its range of commercial vehicles available in the market.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The BDM will focus on driving and leading business development strategies, expanding client base, penetrating untapped
markets, following through on leads and maintaining targets, while growing and retaining existing clients through delivery
of exceptional solutions and creative strategies.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Development Activities;
Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased business.
Cold call as appropriate within your market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organization.
Research and build relationships with new clients.
Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s practice leaders/Principals.
Plan approaches and pitches.
Work with team to develop proposals that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
Participate in pricing the solution/service.
Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive
conclusion.
Use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.
Present an image that mirrors that of the client.
Client Retention
Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs
Business Development Planning
Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
Management and Research
Submit weekly progress reports and ensure data is accurate.
Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s CRM or other sales management system.
Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met by the team.
Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.
Work with marketing staff to ensure that prerequisites (like prequalification or getting on a vendor list) are
fulfilled within a timely manner.
Ensure all team members represent the company in the best light.
Present business development training and mentoring to business developers and other internal staff.
Research and develop a thorough understanding of the company’s people and capabilities.
Understand the company’s goal and purpose so that will continual to enhance the company’s performance.
ACADEMICS | QUALIFICATIONS | SKILLS | EXPERIENCE ACADEMICS | EDUCATION
Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, or Marketing is required. An MBA in addition would be a definite asset.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
At least 5-7 years’ business development experience in automotive.
Should have some exposure to and understanding of On-Highway
(Motor Vehicles, Trucks and Buses, Tires) and Off-Highway (Engine,
Heavy Earth moving equipment’s, Filtration, Power, and Oil & Gas) product lines.
Should have a thorough knowledge of product, need to be able to understand customer needs and offer products accordingly.
Overseas experience will receive preference.
Ability to clearly understand Client’s business requirements, in detail, and get to the core of the assignment in order to offer tailored solutions.
Should be computer savvy and should be proficient in MS Office and relevant software
Good business awareness, knowledge of a wide range of sales techniques and concepts, and work within budget parameters.
Excellent communicator, presentable, professional, well-groomed, well-attired.
Organized, methodical and respond well under pressure
Work well in a team and with a wide range of people
Proactive and responsive in giving practical solutions to emerging situations in the workplace.
Able to provide advice and cause/effect evaluation to support customer decision making.
