Recruitment of a Project Coordinator – MUVI Project (Pwani Region)
MUVI (Muunganisho Ujasiriamali Vijijini) is a project funded by the International Fund for
Agriculture Development (IFAD) through Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT). MUVI is
intended to support value chains to deliver sustainable margins to producers in order to increase
their income and reduce poverty. The program operates in six pilot regions of Tanzania mainland
namely; Iringa, Manyara, Mwanza, Pwani, Ruvuma and Tanga. The Small Industries
Development Organisation (SIDO) is the implementing agency for MUVI program.
PricewtaerhouseCoppers (PwC) has been contracted by SIDO initially to implement the
development of Cassava, Sunflower and Maize in Ruvuma region and Cassava, Sunflower and
Paddy value chains in Mwanza region for four years (2010 – 2014). The contract has then been
extended up to June 2016 for implementation of Cassava value chain development in Mwanza,
Pwani and Ruvuma regions. With this background PwC intends to recruit a suitable and qualified
Project Coordinator for Pwani region, for one year contract.
The Regional Project Coordinator will be responsible for overall management and administering
of the program in the region in coordination and collaboration with Local Government
Authorities (LGAs) other development project partners and stakeholders based on the approved
annual work plan and log frame.
Main duties and responsibilities
• Provide overall leadership at the region level in applying a value chain approach and
learning process to ensure project interventions are targeted and responsive to evolving
market requirements and upgrading needs;
• Assist in implementing marketing activities plans and strategies in collaboration with
respective stakeholders as per annual plan and log frame as stipulated by SIDO/IFAD;
• Coordinate with other project staff to support farmer and producer organisations in
evaluating market requirements and developing responsive marketing plans;
• Facilitate linkages among lead farmers, producer organisations, wholesalers and traders
to make local production competitive with imports in domestic markets;
• Facilitate linkages with financial intermediaries for all value chain stakeholders;
• Provide assistance in conjunction with other technical staff to build the capacity of
producer organisations to perform marketing functions;
• Strengthen farms, associations and rural enterprises to improve post-harvest handling
and value-added services including drying, milling, processing and storage;
• Support retailers and wholesalers in developing market associations to promote a more
transparent and equitable system of market fees and ensures a reliable flow of local
production to market;
• Work with local government to facilitate efficient market access for local production;
• Lobby and advocate on areas of improvement for the better functioning of the subsector
Qualifications and experience required
• Degree in Community Economic Development/Community Development/ Rural
Development/ Agricultural Economics/ Agriculture General;
• At least three years of proved working experience in managing agricultural related projects;
• Experience in working in complex projects with various partner or stakeholders;
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills;
• Good written and verbal communication skills;
• Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili; • Computer literate - Proficiency in the MS Office, Excel and Power point;
Computer literate - Proficiency in the MS Office, Excel and Power point;
• Good team work and ability to build and maintain effective working relationship with a range of people.
The program will be implemented in Mkuranga and Bagamoyo districts in Pwani region. The
Project Coordinator will be based in Mkuranga district (the place where the program office will be located). A competitive rate will be paid to a candidate commensurate with qualifications and experience. MUVI will aslso meet the logistical costs of office space, communication, transport and perdiems within the project area.
