JOB DESCRIPTION FOR Regional Technical Officer
 Reports to: Manager- Regional Core Network
 Department: Technical

 KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: 
 Internal: Support, Service Delivery, Projects, Procurement, CAM, Sales

 OVERALL JOB OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS: 
 Assist with managing optimizing and upgrading the regional network (core and customers) and all International capacities. Particular attention should be paid to monitoring, optimization and redundancy of all Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Metro Packet transport network (PTN) elements on multiplexed infrastructure.
Understand, plan, and provide right and cost effective solutions for infrastructure and clients while also participating in developing new product offerings and solutions.
Train team members on afore mentioned areas.
Generating relevant reports and presentations to management as required/agreed.

 DETAILED JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Problem Solving & Accountability for change/ Stakeholder Management 
 Designing and implementing network solutions for new and existing services.
 Analyzing, optimizing and report on existing regional network.
 Plan, coordinate, and implement network projects as required.
 Work independently and with team members to perform accurate root-cause analysis for resolving problems that may have multiple system dependencies.

2. Sales & Service 
 Work closely with Manager- Regional Core Network in developing and publishing processes, procedures and service level agreements.
 Providing technical advice to Sales and CAMs for existing and new services within the department to ensure business customer
requests are handled appropriately & in a timely manner.

3. Team Leadership & People Management 
 Resolving and providing guidance on resolving the more complex network issues while motivating and empowering team members to grow technically.
 Representing the regional team in implementation, resources management, processes and procedures when required.
 Escalation point of the core network organizational unit.

4. Business Management/Financial
 Analyzing and developing new service offerings.
 Monthly reporting on core network services and activities especially pertaining to infrastructure and capacities managed by the regional team.
 Optimizing existing core network and services whilst ensuring continuous, high, service availability and minimal disruption.
 Ensuring existing customer services are delivered the infrastructure as per Enterprise resource planning (ERP) and Customer relationship management (CRM) in use.
 Conduct meetings with teams from the Internal working relationships as required
 To take part in in the annual work plan/budget of the Technical section as required
5. Risk & Control
 Ensure network security by safeguarding against unauthorized access and abuse of services.
 Observe, document and recommend optimization from report trend and analysis.

 JOB OUTPUTS: 
 A stable and robust network infrastructure that is compliant with existing network standards and in line with technological advancements making way for new service offerings.
 Redundancy, Backup and restoration of critical network and hosted services.
 Infrastructure and customer service availability as per agreed Service Level Agreement.

 MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 
 Bachelor degree in Telecommunications (or equivalent)
 CCNP Routing and Switching (or equivalent)
 JNCIA (or equivalent)
 CompTIA: Linux+ (or equivalent)

 MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE: 
 3 years working experience in the Internet Service Provider industry or equivalent

 QUALITIES OF PERSON NEEDED:

 REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
 Effective communication, reporting, documentation and presentation skills.
 Strong knowledge of routing protocols design and implementation (OSPF, RIP, EIGRP, IS-IS, BGP) specifically in Juniper and Cisco environment.
 Strong knowledge of SDH, especially Add & Drop multiplexing, SDH alarms, Ethernet private line (EPL) and Ethernet virtual private line (EVPL) creation.
 Switching design and implementation (VLANs, VTP, STP, MPLS)
 VPNs (GRE, IPSEC, MPLS) design and implementation

 Network Security (SSH, Telnet, Firewalls, ACLs, SSL)

 KNOWLEDGE OF: 
 PBX & VoIP (G.729, G.711,SIP)
 QoS techniques
 Domain, Email and Web Hosting services (DNS,POP, IMAP, SMTP)
 Network Monitoring, troubleshooting & Analysis Tools: Radius, Rancid, Smoke ping, SolarWinds NPM, Cacti
 Network Technologies/Standards (WiFi, WiMax, VSAT, iDirect, VoIP, fiber)
 Power Management
